This year, Delta Upsilon will be hosting 3LAU, a critically-acclaimed mashup artist known for his addictive mixes of top-40 pop and electronic beats.  If you're starting to like the sound of electronic music but aren't sure what to expect, let 3LAU be your guide this house party.  His amazing balance of familiar songs and energetic electronic music will “3LAU your mind” this House Party Weekend! 3LAU, pronounced “Blau” after the artist's name Justin Blau, first starting making mashups during his time at Washington University in St. Louis while studying finance.  However, this past fall was a turning point when he left the university to pursue his music career full-time. Though he's only 22, 3LAU has released tons of material, including long mixes and shorter tracks, and has been encouraged by huge artists such as Tiesto and Porter Robinson.  Several of his mixes, such as “Girls Who Save the World”(http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X1RSVlt3CoA), “Dubsex”(https://soundcloud.com/3lau/dubsex-short-mix) and “Yacht Week in America”(https://soundcloud.com/3lau/yacht-week-in-america), have reached the top of Beatport and HypeM charts, a huge milestone for emerging electronic artists.

Up until now, 3LAU has specialized in mashups, which layer two songs over one another, and he frequently pairs vocals or rap with catchy electronic instrumentals.  Often, the electronic component to his mixes has fallen under the category of house music, including electro-house and progressive house.

3538_10151545731552392_1929792_nThough his mashups include existing pop songs, 3LAU's sound has always been iconic: a banging kick and addictive melodies float above the pop vocals, and he has an obvious talent for maintaining momentum in his seamless mixes.  He also cites musical inspiration from artists such as Wolfgang Gartner, Sigur Ros, and Radiohead.  Looking toward the future, 3LAU hopes to transition his mashup artist persona into a fully-fledged ”big room house” producer, taking his inspiration and creativity to a new level. These creative components will obviously come into play as 3LAU begins to release original material in the coming months, and the results are eagerly-awaited.

Though you may not have heard of 3LAU before, trust me: we will all be hearing more from 3LAU in the future. This guy is going to be HUGE, and HP Weekend is your exclusive chance to see him!
