Animal Collective’s Avey Tare Tries Something New
Miss Animal Collective? Since the 2012 release of Hz Centipede, there has been virtually no sound from these four Maryland born, New York based boys. Until now, that is. Avey Tare’s Slasher Flicks, a band made up of Dave Portner (Avey Tare), Angel Deradoorian (formerly of Dirty Projectors), and Jeremy Hyman (formerly of Ponytail) just announced their debut LP, Enter the Slasher House, to be released in April. Additionally, they announced some upcoming shows.
Just as experimental as Animal Collective, Avey Tare’s new project has a lot of Animal Collective’s best qualities supplemented by some inventive new tweaks. Just check out their website, and you’ll see that none of Animal Collective’s old quirks were really lost on this new project; however, Avey Tare’s accompanying parties, Angel Deradoorian and Jeremy Hyman, bring some seriously cool things to the table. They’re trying to get the “fun, weird, pop-horror element” that novelty pop songs like Monster Mash have, which doesn’t tend to pop up so much anymore, according to Tare. Judging by that, we’re definitely in for a fun, frenzied journey with these guys.
Make sure you check out and support Avey Tare’s new project Avey Tare’s Slasher Flicks and definitely keep an eye out for their debut LP, out April 8 in the US.
