I have a newfound love for M83, a vibrant group that I believe has not received enough attention. M83 was formed in Antibes, France in 2001 by Anthony Gonzalez and Nicolas Fromageau, but now includes Anthony Gonzalez, Jordan Lawlor, Loic Maurin, Kaela Sinclair, and Ian Young. M83 has realized six albums, of which their most popular is Hurry Up, We’re Dreaming. The style of M83 is characterized by abundant use of reverb effects as well as softly spoken lyrics. They include a combination of many genres, including electronic and pop. I find that their songs are more laid-back; many songs contain repeating electronic tracks that create a meditative aspect.

M83 will be releasing a new album in April, called Junk. “Do it, Just Try It”, a single from this album, has already been released. It definitely follows the same style as Hurry Up, We’re Dreaming, but is a bit more funky. If you are looking for a groovy song to sing along to, give it a listen. After the complete release of their new album, M83 will be touring internationally and will be performing at various festivals including Coachella in Indio, CA, Governor’s Ball at Randall’s Island, and Bonnaroo in Manchester, TN.

The song “Midnight City” is the band’s most well known song. I find that this song is great to use in videos; it has ups and downs, which makes a for a dynamic mood. This song is also great to boost your mood as it very fun to listen to. I also like listening to this song while I am studying because it keeps me alert and energized.

I recently found the song “Raconte- Moi un Histoire”. This song is very different from any song I’ve heard before because the lyrics tell a story, which seems to be recited by a small child. This song is very calming and refreshing. The lyrics tell a story of a magical frog that can change how you perceive the world. Listen carefully to the lyrics to be taken back to your childhood imagination. Although the song is seemingly childish, for me it serves as a breath of fresh air.
