As Seen on TV: Double-Threat Musician/Actors

You’ve probably watched actors and actresses in some of your favorite TV shows and movies, then started to listen to a new playlist on Spotify and thought “Hey, this sounds a lot like [you name it]!” The thing is, it’s probably them. Here are some my picks for the most popular musicians today who also have a stellar acting career to back them up: Donald Glover a.k.a. Childish Gambino

[embedyt][/embedyt] Starring on Community from 2009-2014 while being one of the most poignant voices in the rap industry is no small task, but Donald Glover more than rose to that challenge. Gambino’s last album, the 7-track Kauai, was released in 2014 after he made huge splashes with his first two studio albums: Camp in 2011, and Because the Internet in 2013. Glover has made many other screen appearances in both film and TV, from events with Comedy Central to even voicing animated characters on shows like Adventure Time and The Ultimate Spiderman. His movie credits recently include Glover as a astrophysicist in The Martian and appearing in Magic Mike XXL as another singer/rapper. Coincidence? I think not.

[embedyt][/embedyt] Zooey Deschanel (of She & Him)

Currently the adorkable star of New Girl on TV (which I’ve been binging over the break), Deschanel also has been doing quite a bit of music making in the past few years. She most often performs in her indie folk duo She & Him with Matthew Stephen Ward (better known as M. Ward). Her voice on tracks brings up a quirky, nostalgic sound that is easy to listen to and puts a smile on your face. She’s appeared in movies covering a slew of genres from the musical film of Once Upon A Mattress to 500 Days of Summer. On TV, she’s also appeared on Saturday Night Live, Bones, and voiced characters on American Dad and The Simpsons.

Jennifer Lopez   [embedyt][/embedyt]   While we didn’t hear much from J. Lo’s 2014 release A.K.A., it can’t go without saying that she has made her mark on stage and on the screen. She even just began her run as leading lady, starring alongside actor Ray Liotta on the new TV Show Shades of Blue, which premiered on January 7 this year. Her most sensational screen appearance is arguably her role as Federal Marshal Karen Sisco alongside George Clooney in the 1998 crime comedy Out Of Sight. J. Lo has also been a judge on American Idol since 2010 and has taken her Latin and dance-influenced sound throughout her music career.
