Break Out Your Nude Bodysuit- We’re Reviewing Sia’s Chandelier Music Video
Simply put, Sia’s “Chandelier” music video is one for the books. With award winning choreography and an incredible star performer, this certainly isn’t one to be missed. From the chanteuses’ sixth studio album 1000 Forms of Fear, the single’s video co-directed by Sia and Daniel Askill is a portrayal of the typical thought process and evolution of a “party girl.”
Notorious for hiding her face from the camera, it’s not surprising that for her grand music video, Australian singer/songwriter Sia would develop an awe-inspiring scheme for visually portraying her hit single “Chandelier”. The artist handpicked 11-year-old Maddie Ziegler (you may recognize her from the hit reality TV series Dance Moms) to portray her younger persona. A fan of the show, Sia reached out to Maddie via Twitter and within two weeks, the young star was ready to begin filming.
Donning a blunt platinum blonde bob replicating the singer’s signature locks, Maddie swirls, kicks, crawls, jumps, and leaps throughout an abandoned apartment in awe- inspiring and slightly discomforting choreography by Ryan Heffington.
In a video unlike any other, or at least any one that we’ve seen in a while, Chandelier captivates with a “what comes next?” aura and the general amazement that an 11-year-old can possibly dance like that. During an interview for New York Magazine Maddie discussed her reaction to the choreography: “I like the whole dance. It was really different and weird for me, because I usually don’t, you know, be a crazy person every time. It was so fun to do and it was really out of the box and it expanded me a lot, because I’m used to competition dances where you’re like, Point your legs! But this time it was like, you just need to let go and feel it.”
While the young star is no new comer to a life on screen, she is nevertheless gaining momentum for the video which reached nearly 1 million views within its first 24 hours online, and has made guest appearances on television talk shows.
