Brett Walter Presents: A Practical Summer Playlist
At this point in the summer, you’re still disillusioned by the fact that you’re going to get a lot done. You’re going to exercise every day, read that best-seller everyone’s been talking about, party like you’ve never partied before, maybe even get a job—probably not—and this is just the pump-up jam you need to get yourself going!
2. “Respect” by Melanie Amaro
It’s barely been a week at home and suddenly you realize that you have lost you independence. You can’t just leave your house without telling someone where you’re going and you have to start being quiet around 10pm (don’t worry, I yell at my television too). Thankfully, this empowering anthem has been updated by the former X Factor champ, giving it all the sass you wish you could give your parents.
3. “Beautiful” by Christina Aguilera
Let me guess, you went to the gym for the first few days you were home and now you’re “just taking a little break.” We both know you’re not getting off the couch any time soon, and hey, I’m not judging you. Grab a pan of brownies, hop on the couch, and serenade yourself through spoonfuls of chocolate-y goodness.
4. “Follow Running Foxes” by The Jane Doze
Tonight’s the night! There’s a big party at Rachel’s house and all your friends are going to be there—even your potential summer fling. Play this song while you’re getting ready with the bffl’s and sneaking alcohol from your parents’ liquor cabinet. A party anthem from this mashup up genius and it’s like you never even graduated high school.
5. “Royals” by Lorde
Alright, now that we’ve got that out of our system, it’s time to nurse the hangover. This is that crucial point of the summer where you realize that being social just isn’t worth it. So what if you don’t leave the house for a few days (read: weeks)? It’s your summer vacation. Bump this song while reminding yourself that might not be the decadent party animal you thought you were.
6. “I Love It” by Icona Pop
Wow, summer flew by! Granted it lasted longer than this six-song playlist, but who cares: The school year is in sight and you can’t want to get back to your friends and some semblance of a daily routine. If you’re anything like me, this is when you start shirking responsibilities (more so than usual) and ticking the days off your calendar.
Regardless of whether or not your summer parallels this playlist (and let’s be honest, it’s probably better if it doesn’t), music can enhance your vacation experience. Stalk your friends’ profiles on Spotify, or click through YouTube links until your fingers bleed and start the music video that is your summer life!
