Campus Vinyl’s Guide to Music Festivals in 2015
Along with all the new year resolutions you may or may not have made and followed, 2015 brings a whole new year filled with a long, long list things you wish to accomplish. Hopefully you have some cool concerts and festivals thrown on to your 2015 bucket list. Weather you are an avid festival-goer, or you’re just looking for a good time with good music, there are TONS of festivals waiting for you in the new year. However, because of the crazy amount of festivals all over the world, it can get a little overwhelming to pick which ones you’re interested in. So, here is a list of 10 popular festivals in the United States and the general vibe they attract! (There’s a ton all over the world, so if you’re hopping on a plane anytime soon you should check out festivals near you for sure.)
When? March 27-29
Where? Miami, Florida
2015 Highlights? Avicii, Skrillex, David Guetta, Tiesto, Steve Aoki, Krewella, Kieza and MORE
Vibe? If you're into EDM (Electronic Dance Music) this is where you go. Beside the fact that its located in Miami, which never really lets you down, Ultra draws the biggest EDM names around the world. Lots of crazy people, with crazy clothes and probably taking crazy drugs. Personally, my favorite part about Ultra was the incredible sounds and lights that take over at night, but the day is a raging party as well. Even if you’re not 100% EDM all the time (like me) Ultra is definitely an unforgettable experience.
When? April 10-12, April 17-19
Where? Indio, California
2015 Highlights? Drake, Kygo, RAC, AC/DC, Alt-J, Vance Joy, Florence and the Machine, Alabama Shakes, Kaskaade, St. Vincent, Hozier, Fitz& The Tantrums, David Guetta and MORE
Vibe? Arguable one of the biggest festivals of the year, Coachella rakes in a ton of great musicians of all genres in a two-weekend bash. PLUS it’s in the middle of a desert, which is awesome. No matter what music you’re into you’re pretty much guaranteed to find some great artists.
When? May 23-25
Where? George, Washington
2015 Highlights SOON: being announced in February. Last year headliners included OutKast, Kid Cudi, MIA, HAIM, Foster the People, Chance the Rapper and The Naked and Famous.
Vibe? Sasquatch is located right on a huge cliff with a beautiful view of a gorge in Washington. People venture to George and camp out over a weekend spent outside with awesome artists. In 2013 the festival solid out in the a mere 90 minutes so this is definitely one for the books!
- Electric Daisy Carnival
When and Where? May 23-24 (New York) and June 19-21 (Las Vegas)
2015 Highlights? Headliners for the New York and Vegas shows have yet to come out. However, EDC also occurs in Puerto Rico and Mexico. February 28 - March 1, headliners in Mexico include Tiesto, The Chainsmokers, Route 94, David Guetta, Dillon Francis and more!
Vibe? The main event is definitely the Las Vegas show, but New York’s smaller festival is also very popular. The Vegas event begins when the sun sets and ends at sunrise, making for a unique night experience. While the New York one takes place during the day, letting you party all day under the NYC sun.
- Governor’s Ball
When? June 5-7
Where? New York, NY
2015 Highlights? Drake, the Black Keys, Florence and the Machine, Lana Del Rey, Flume, The Decemberists, SBTRKT, Flying Lotus, Atmosphere, Charli XCX, Clean Bandit, Vance Joy and more!
Vibe? Governor’s Ball invites a disparate group of very well known artists into the big apple for three-day, multistage festival. Everyone congregates in Randall’s Island Park and is welcomed with a ton of different activities (including a mixology tent, lawn games, silent disco and face and body paintings) plus a ton of great food, plus the awesome artists it is a good time all around.
When? June 11-14
Where? Manchester, Tennessee
2015 Highlights? Billy Joel, Mumford and Sons, Kendrick Lamar, Deadmau5, Earth Wine and Fire, Ben Folds, Alabama Shakes, Ben Harper, BassNectar, My Morning Jacket and more!
Vibe? Bonnaroo attracts a wild crowd of vibrant individuals who head out to TN, set up camp and enjoy the 4 days of heat and music. Last year Elton John and Ben Folds appeared on stage together which is pretty awesome, and this year’s line up definitely holds huge potential to be one of the best musical experiences in 2015.
- Firefly Music Festival
When? June 18-21
Where? Dover, Deleware
2015 Highlights? Foo Fighters, OutKast, Jack Johnson, Imagine Dragons, Pretty Lights, Arctic Monkeys, Weezer and more!
Vibe? Firefly is relativley new to the festival scene, starting in 2012. However the setting of this festival is unique, it is located in the woodlands and attendees camp out (normally in tents, or RVs for some who choose “glamping,” which is a little more classy). Along with the various musicians, you will find a market, a brewery and other cool locations to entertain yourself along with awesome tunes.
When? June 31 - August 2
Where? Chicago, Illinois
2015 Highlights? Still TBA (so look out for a release of some names soon!) Last year Lolla welcomed headliners such as Eminem, Kings of Leon, OutKast, Skrillex, Lorde, Nas and Arctic Monkeys
Vibe? Held in Grant Park in Chicago, Lolla is organized with several stages. With day and night performances in the middle of the Chicago summer you get a wide variety of participants all coming to shop, eat, drink and listen to some of the top artists around.

Where? Chattahoochee Hills, Georgia
2015 Highlights? Also TBA. But 2014 witnessed artists like David Guetta, Skrillex, Tiesto, Diplo, Kaskade etc.
Vibe? Ever heard of Tomorrowland? Well, in 2013 America came out with its own recreation, which is now an annual event. TomorrowWorld takes a music festival to a while new other level, within the forest you camp out in “DreamVille” and eat and drink in the Market Place. There are floating bridges, “Lime Ritas Island” and 9 stages including the main stage. TomorrowWorld is definitely created to become a magical experience.
- Voodoo Music Experience
When? October 30 - November 1
Where? New Orleans, Louisiana
2015 Highlights? Another TBA. 2014 featured Foo Fighters, 20 Second to Mars, Skrillex, Zedd, Arctic Monkeys, AWOLNATION and more
Vibe? Just because the summer is winding down doesn’t mean your music festivals have to! First, New Orleans is a pretty awesome city to hangout in, especially with all these great artists. Voodoo is for all ages and 4 main stages to explore.
