CV's August Playlist
Happy August! With the first day of classes only 16 days away, it's time to make the most of your last days of summer. Whether you're sitting on the beach or throwing ragers, this playlist has a little bit of everything. Tell us what you think.
Laura Yoo is dreaming to "Feels Like We Only Go Backwards" by Tame Impala
I can't quite put my finger on it, but we all know there's something hazy, maybe even dreamlike, about summer. This track captures that indistinct quality, with prominent vocals and percussion fading in and out like one totally dazed & confused memory.
Brianna Marshall can't get "Thunder Clatter" by Wild Cub out of her head.
"Thunder Clatter" has been stuck in my head for days. The combination of upbeat rhythm and chanting vocals make this song so catchy. It's perfect for enjoying the last days of summer!
Justin Westdyke is hooked on "I Don't Love You Anymore" by Real Friends
Ever since Real Friends put out their newest album Maybe This Place is the Same and We're Just Changing earlier this summer, I've been hooked on pretty much each and every song. It's just one of those records that reminds me of everything I used to love about angsty punk-rock music and why I miss it so much. "I Don't Love You Anymore" is one of their singles from the album that has bits and pieces of what you can expect from the other tracks off the album!

I find it nearly impossible to not feel instantaneous joy when this song comes on. A steady synth progression, jovial vocal samples, and soft instrumentals fuse nicely to back the leading vocals in this abstract, ridiculously catchy song.
Jen Lassen's recent favorite is "Lungs" by CHVRCHES
I've been on a CHVRCHES kick all summer, and 'Lungs' is one of my favorite songs of theirs. The upbeat tempo and fast beat with cool electronic sounds always puts me in a good mood as I drive to my summer internship each day!
Marcus Schenck is digging into "Beggin for Thread" by Banks
This is your new jam for the rest of the summer. It's low-key but has an amazing beat to dig in to. Just soak in the atmospheric lines in the verses and then just groove. And don't even get me started on the bridge-- the girl's voice has an amazing range and she makes good use of it in this unexpectedly alluring breakup track.
Nick Bartek is listening to "Give You Up (Darius Remix)" by Crayon
I've been hunting around for some laid back jams to bump and stumbled upon this remix on Spotify. Definitely give this a listen and kick back.
Tom Bonan chooses "That Certain Female" by Charlie Feathers
Tom describes this song as "some classic rock 'n roll to tide you over for the rest of the summer."
Joe Tull is fascinated by "Runnin' Scared" by Aaron West and the Roaring Twenties
Aaron West and the Roaring Twenties is a solo project created by Dan Campbell, lead singer of The Wonder Years. What's fascinating about it is that he started it simply as a way to practice playing guitar and it expanded into a full-length concept album called "We Don't Have Each Other". It's about a fictional character Aaron West who is living in New York while going through a divorce in what is undeniably the worst year of his life. This particular song from the album has a nostalgic and summery feel, so it seems fitting as the summer comes to a close.
Morgan Klein never gets tired of "Where Did You Go To My Lovely" by Peter Sarstedt
This song is potentially the most listen-able song I've ever heard. It never gets old and always makes me smile. I've been listening to this quite a bit recently after hearing it in a Wes Anderson short and falling in love with it! I hope it makes you as glad as it makes me.
Connor Small is chilling out to "Smoke Again (feat. Ab Soul)" by Chance the Rapper
I liked Chance before Governor's Ball, but after seeing him there I've been listening to him non-stop. This is my favorite song from his Acid Rap mixtape and its beat is perfect chilling out and for partying. Ab Soul is always dope, and the video is pretty great.
Louise Peterson suggests "Hey Mami" by Sylvan Esso
Connor Small sent me this song in July and I can't stop listening to it. The repetition of the unique lyrics complimented by the soft bells and electronic tones that come in after the 1:25 create a striking simplicity. I can't get enough.
Jason Hammett is excited about "West Savannah feat. SZA" by Isaiah Rashad
