Event of the Week: Lee DeWyze
Uptown, our notorious student nightclub located in the basement of Swartz Hall, has brought many well-known performers and artists in the past. In recent years, this hasn’t exactly been the case, but this coming Friday has the potential to be an awesome night in Uptown history. The ninth winner of American Idol, performer Lee DeWyze, will perform in Uptown starting at 9:00 p.m. Best of all, the concert is FREE and open to all students!
DeWyze, who hails from Illinois, is a singer-songwriter with a rich musical history. Before gracing the American Idol stage, DeWyze had a solo career and also formed the Lee DeWyze Band. His first two independent albums, So I'm Told in 2007 and Slumberlandin 2010, were released prior to his Idol victory in 2010.
DeWyze’s top hits include “Beautiful Day” and “Sweet Serendipity.” His unique voice and pop-rock tone are likened to Jason Mraz, Gavin DeGraw, and Eric Hutchinson. With an upbeat tone to his music, DeWyze will definitely elevate any mood and create a fun, chill concert for all to enjoy.
If you haven’t checked out Uptown yet, I totally encourage it. Complete with tricked-out lighting, a sweet sound stage, and a pub/nightclub vibe, it’s definitely one of the most eclectic and underrated spots on our campus. And, again, the concert is 100% FREE, FREE, FREE!! Why wouldn’t you go?!
So tear yourself away from watching re-runs of How I Met Your Mother and go to Uptown to see an American Idol winner this Friday night. DeWyze is guaranteed to create a fun, exciting atmosphere for students. He is an excellent vocalist and musician that you won’t want to miss! Check out his music here: https://www.youtube.com/
Don't stop the beat,
