Gorillaz is Back

Last week Gorillaz co-founder Jamie Hewlett excited many fans when he posted artwork of band members Noodle and Murdoc on Instagram. The photos were met with a flood of comments asking if there would be a return of Gorillaz after a 4-year hiatus. Eventually, Hewlett responded, “Yes, Gorillaz returns.” This is big news! In case you didn’t know, Gorillaz are a London-based virtual band created in 1998 by Hewlett and Damon Albarn. The band is visualized through 4 cartoon characters: 2D on lead vocals, keyboard, and melodica, Murdoc Niccals on bass guitar, Noodle on guitar, keyboard, and backing vocals, and Russel Hobbs on drums. These characters are completely fictional and you can explore their universe through music videos and their website (http://gorillaz.com). It’s basically the best of both worlds: cartoons and music, right? Gorillaz has a very unique musical style that can be kind of-described as a rock, hip hop, electronica, reggae, pop hybrid. They were met with a ton of success back in the day when their debut album Gorillaz sold over 7 million copies, earning them the title as the “Most Successful Virtual Band” according to the Guinness Book of World Records. And with classics like “Feel Good Inc.” and “Clint Eastwood”, it’s easy to see how the group’s distinct flavor contributed to their rise to fame. Check these musical gems out below, and we’ll be back with more Gorillaz info as soon as it’s released.
