Hot Track of the Week: "High You Are"

Campus Vinyl’s Hot Track of the Week is “High You Are (Branchez Remix)” by What So Not.  The group What So Not was basically unknown until 2013, when they started to first release music.  An Australian duo comprised of heavy hitting Emoh Instead and very popular Flume, What So Not has gotten a lot of recognition this year primarily through their remix of the song “Get Free” by Major Lazer feat. Amber of Dirty Projects. [embedyt]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B2m_WnXjqnM[/embedyt]

They were immediately hunted after by various labels, some domestic like Modular, and abroad by techno artist Diplo’s label, Mad Decent, but What So Not signed with a potentially even bigger name in the business OWSLA.  OWSLA is the label of the techno god himself, Skrillex, who needs no introduction these days.

What So Not has a very different approach to dance music.  I want to call it dubstep but its not, it’s closer to a Trap beat without any rapping.  “High You Are” uses strong a strong melodic voice throughout the song, with beat that forces one into a slower bounce giving this song a unique dance floor environment that has gotten serious acclaim from others in the business.

Flume as a solo artist has also become very popular in 2013.  He was nominated for Album of the Year in Australia and won the Best Male Artist and Best Dance Release by the Australian Recording Industry Association for his album self titled, Flume.  His partner Emoh Instead is not as well known but certainly adds a large to the duo bringing a heavier dubstep feel into the team.

A good friend of mine told me about this song, and I really liked it.  I think you might too, and certainly look out for new music from these guys.  They’ve only just gotten started.
