Kaleidoscope Dream with Guest Author Michel Ajjan

If you haven’t heard of him yet, chances are you will soon. Miguel Pimentel, known simply as Miguel, is bringing a whole new style of music to the table. Although classified as R&B, Miguel’s music is its own art, offering unique vocals combined with energetic instrumentals that are reminiscent of Prince. Although his music doesn’t top the charts, Miguel’s work is well-received by critics and is quite popular on the air. Late last year Miguel released his sophomore album, Kaleidoscope Dream. Kaleidoscope Dream offers a rich blend of different sounds, bringing hip-hop, R&B, and rock together for a complete album that soothes the mind. Miguel uses a mix of strings, acoustics, and drums complemented by deep bass that all fuse together to craft a special album. With contributions from Alicia Keys, Elle Varner, and Jerry Duplessis, this piece of art radiates quality.

"Adorn" is the lead single off the album and most successful song for Miguel, being nominated for three Grammy Awards including Song of the Year and Best R&B Performance, while winning the award for Best R&B song. Only one example of his immense talent, Miguel wrote and produced the track on his own before composing brilliant vocals. If that isn’t enough, the video for the song is based on a dream by Miguel, giving him some experience as a director and setting the foundation for the title of the album.

My personal favorite song off the album is Do You…, a romantic, adult-themed track that exudes feel-good vibes that make the song both fun and sensual. Miguel uses bold lyrics backed up by guitar and drum rhythms that create a playful yet enticing atmosphere.

"Do You…"

I encourage you to check out his debut album, All I Want Is You, and his work with other artists. Miguel has collaborated with Wale on "Lotus Flower Bomb" and J. Cole on "Power Trip" (definitely check this one out). With great music already out there, this is only the beginning for Miguel.
