What better way to raise money for a good cause than to sell an album…full of love songs? For Valentine’s Day, the brothers of Kappa Sigma-Alpha Phi chapter recorded their premiere album, “Kappa Sigma Presents: Love Songs” in the WVBU 90.5 FM Recording Studio at Bucknell. The brothers then sold their albums, complete with a sexy cover photo, rose petal stickers, and some possible copyright issues for $5 in the Elaine Langone Center. All proceeds from the album will benefit the Military Heroes campaign. “The love sick brothers of Kappa Sigma, inspired by the lovely ladies we see every day, took to the recording studio to express their overwhelming sensual desires and undeniable appreciation for the season of love,” claims Kappa Sigma brother Matthew Berman ’15.

The album features an eclectic mix of love songs, all featuring some original instrumentation and the vocals of the Kappa Sig brothers. Let’s just put it this way: the vocals aren’t quite as impressive as some would hope, but hey…they tried.

Take the first track, “Can’t Get Enough Of Your Love,” a cover of Barry White’s 1974 hit song.  Courtney Elliott ‘14’s smooth voice is reminiscent of White’s (kind of…).  Needless to day, the track is the perfect song to open this passionate album.

Some other album highlights include a cover of Taylor Swift’s “Mine,” on which a few brothers harmonize together and play the tune with a ukulele and background beat boxing.  You definitely don’t wanna skip this one.  Also, the emotional covers of Elton John’s “Can You Feel The Love Tonight” and The Temptations’ “My Girl” feature some pretty, well, interesting harmonies and will definitely make you smile…if not laugh out loud (in the best way possible, of course!).

The brothers’ rendition of Billy Joel’s “The Longest Time” features a doo-wop style and falsetto vocals; truth be told, it doesn’t sound half bad.  Similarly, the boys’ cover of John Legend’s “Save Room” sounds, well, appealing…and pretty professional, if you ask me. Props!

Other covers on the album include “Hello,” “Amazed,” “You Belong With Me,” and “She’s So High.” They’re as entertaining as the others and the last track on the album, a cover of Mario’s “Let Me Love You,” features a few of the brothers singing this sensual, smooth song.  If you listen through the whole track, you’ll hear a hilarious sign-of from the brothers wishing their listeners and adoring fans a happy Valentine’s Day.

“We poured our heart and souls into this album. This may be the greatest compilation of cover songs I’ve ever heard, and it’s for a great cause,” brother Zachary Pogust ’15 adds.

Don’t miss your chance to purchase this album and hear it for yourself. Despite the slightly illegal use of background tracks, you won’t regret your decision for you will certainly be entertained.  Trust me…you’ll be glad you bought one to keep you company this Valentine’s Day.
