Marcus’ Mid-Semester Mix: Stayin’ Alive in the Struggle
Let’s face it. Right now, we feel like this:
And we want to feel like this:
We’re in the drink already this semester, with midterms, essays, and projects upon us. Everyday seems to get a little longer, and hump days pass with less and less energy to get to the weekend. But fear not, there’s always a way to get out of the mid-semester slump. And it usually involves a killer playlist to jam out to. The only thing you don’t need right now is monotony. To keep to you on your toes, here’s a playlist with something for everybody. It'll cheer you up, keep you focused, and get you excited about getting to Friday and straight-up rocking the school.
1. Glenn Miller - In the Mood
There’s noting quite like a few minutes of some good ol’ swing to brighten your day. I don’t know about you but I just get this stupid grin on my face when this kind of music comes on. You can’t be sad listening to this. (And if you still are, hold on just a little longer!) Just get up and do a little shimmy in the middle of your studying. It’s not like anyone will judge you for it if they see you. I mean, who does that, right?
2. Franz Joseph Haydn - Toy Symphony
First, just sit down for a few minutes and let off some steam with some classical music made silly with toy flutes, rattles, bird whistles, and more. Yes, you read that correctly. There are actually toys written in to the score for this one. Who knew classical music could be this ridiculous? The link for this performance even has some of the musicians wearing Tweety Bird hats. No lie, go check it out and have a good laugh.
3. Bonnie Mckee - American Girl
There will be days when you just want to give up and throw your textbook out the window and curse the morning the sun decided to come up and made you get up for class (a.k.a. everyday). With that in mind, this song is all about no worries and doing whatever the heck you want. Just don’t necessarily do what she does in the video. (The reader assumes liability for all actions taken after the viewing of this music video.)
4. Justin Timberlake - Take Back the Night
This is your anthem for getting through all your projects and exams and rocking each and every obstacle! Congrats! You can finally have some sort of social life again and you can look forward to Fall Break. Dance like you don’t care and procrastinate like there’s no tomorrow. You totally deserve it after all your hard work.
5. Miley Cyrus - Wrecking Ball
And even if you don’t feel like you might have done the best job, just screw it and take the Miley Cyrus approach: strut around scantily clad with a sledgehammer and swing around the block crashing ALL the parties. It’s ok. Really, it is. (Except for the sledgehammer, use your own judgement for that one.)
If you do it right, it should look something like this:
