Schoolboy Q to Replace Chance the Rapper!
“I got the bad, the good, and the real bad,” says Q who earned his name from being known for going to the best schools, but also being heavy in the streets. “I learned what to do, and how to get into trouble. A lot of the stuff I did, I regret. Shit I hate talking about now because I’m over it. Stuff I regret. But it all made me who I am.” (schoolboyq.com) For those of you who have yet to hear, at 4am last night, Chance the Rapper cancelled his performance with Jason Derulo for tomorrow night's fall concert. Luckily, the Concert Committee moves fast and was able to replace him with Schoolboy Q, another well-known hip-hop recording artist from L.A.
Schoolboy Q, also known as Quincy Hanley, signed with Top Dawg Entertainment in 2009 and secured a recording contract with Interscope Records in 2011. He is a member of West Coasts hip hop group Black Hippy, alongside his fellow label peers Kendrick Lamar, Ab-Soul, and Jayrock. In 2008 and 2009, he released his first full-length mix tapes ScHoolboy Turned Hustla and Gangsta & Soul. His independent album Setbacks in 2011 reached number 100 on the US Billboard 200 chart. A year later, he released Habits & Contradictions which debuted as number 111 on Billboard.
You may know some of his singles from his 2014 studio album Oxymoron. "Collard Greens", "Man of the Year", and "Studio" all topped the Billboard charts. Check out writer and editor Jason Hammett's review of Oxymoron here for more information.
So despite the disappointment some of us may feel after Chance's surprise cancellation, Schoolboy Q promises an excellent performance. Additionally, our very own writer Elias Strizower will be DJing before Schoolboy Q goes on. You won't wanna miss it!
