The Offbeats Spring Concert

Hey everybody! Guess where you should be this Sunday, 4/14, at 2:30pm? Well, assuming you’re out of bed (which I should hope so by now), you’ll be at Bucknell Hall watching the Offbeats Spring Concert! It’s going to be an awesome time with a slew of hits from some your favorite artists. I got the chance to talk with Jessica Isgro (’16), the music director for the Offbeats, and we spoke about their upcoming concert.

Q: Has there been any direction that the music has been going this semester?

A: We have a lot of new arrangements. Be prepared for a little bit of everything. There are songs from when we were kids, ones on the radio now, and even some our parents’ age. There’s even a Disney Medley that the seniors have been anxious to do and that they’ve been working on since last year. There’s some Lion King, Beauty and the Beast, and more.”

Q: Who are some of the artists you’re covering?

A: Well Allison Gibson (’13) and I arranged all of the music. But we covered a lot of artists, like Aretha Franklin, One Republic, and even Calvin Harris.

Q: What are you most excited for in the concert?

A: I’m really excited to see the seniors sing their solos, since it’s their last concert and everything. They do such a good job. The arrangements are all really cool and I’m also excited for our new members, Logan Kauffeld (’15) and Dylan Smith (’14). Our freshmen, Julianne Pearson (’16) and Sean McMahon (’16) also have solos and they sound great, they put in a lot of good work.

One of our other Campus Vinyl BucknellU journalists, Laura Yoo (’16), was able to catch up with two other members in the group, Julianne Pearson and Sarah Pelosi (’15). Here’s what they said:

Julianne Pearson: This Sunday The Offbeats are super excited to perform in our spring concert where we will be recognizing all of our graduating seniors! We have a variety of wonderful songs in store, and I am particularly excited for our Disney Medley!! We hope you all will come and join us for a really great, entertaining, and awesome concert!!!

Sarah Pelosi: I think we are most excited about debuting our Disney medley and Aretha Franklin's You're All I Need To Get By, which were arranged by one of our musical directors. We also are saying goodbye to all of our seniors (about half our group, actually), which amps up the energy even more. I'd say we're still considered the "baby" group of the a cappella culture on campus, so we love when the students come out to see how much we've grown.

With that in mind, make sure you’re at Bucknell Hall this Sunday, April 14 at 2:30 to see the Offbeats in their big Spring Concert! It’ll be a great way to end the weekend! Hope to see you guys there!
