Ultra Music Festival 2015 in Rewind

The time has come and passed for Ultra Music Festival Miami 2015. After a tide of new music and changes in EDM through the past year, Ultra more than adopted and welcomed it. They pieced together a fantastic lineup welcoming both the standards of EDM as well as the new talents who have quickly made their way towards the top. The festival lived up to its reputation, providing an enjoyable and fun experience for all its guests, though it did experience a few hiccups along the way. With a little bit of fun always comes some trouble. A total of 76 arrests were made at UMF this year. Although this may seem like a startling amount, it is the lowest reported number of arrests since UMF 2012.

Now lets get back to the music.

Ultra Music Festival once again hosted industry heavyweights such as Skrillex, Avicii, Hardwell, Afrojack, and others, while once again featuring the legendary Carl Cox at his Carl Cox and Friends Arena. The festival also invited some new faces such as Kygo, Kiesza, Odesza, and Clean Bandit, among others.

One of the greatest surprises at Ultra Music Festival this year was the overlapping set times of Kygo and Skrillex as they both closed off the festival at 10pm from two respective stages. Although Kygo has carved his way throughout the music industry this past year with his numerous remixes and catalytic effect on the growth of tropical house, does this award him a closing set at one of the biggest festivals in the world? I’ll leave that for you to ponder, but with Skrillex’s 6 Grammy Awards and undeniable influence in the music industry it’s a pretty obvious answer.

The festival also played host to numerous amounts of surprise guests this year. With Martin Garrix bringing Usher, to Cashmere Cat inviting Ariana Grande, I think the best surprise visits came during Skrillex’s set. Not only did Skrillex invite Diplo, world-renowned DJ and Skrillex’s other half in the duo Jack Ü, but he also welcomed to the stage the likes of Justin Bieber, Kiesza, CL, Kai, and P.Diddy. This was definitely a set to remember, and a highpoint of the festival.

All in all Ultra Music Festival was a huge success this year. Despite Miami’s initial reluctance to welcome the festival back this year, it seems as though their welcoming spirit has paid off yet again.
