Congrats on finishing the first few weeks of classes, Bucknellians! As you’re slowly but surely getting back into the swing of things, there’s no time like the present to check out the latest and greatest music events on campus. Take a break from your Engineering project, English paper or Math problems to marvel at some of the most talented musicians from here, there and everywhere. Peruse this list to schedule in your perfect “study break” this week: SUNDAY, FEBRUARY 1: Clipper Erickson, piano, recital/lecture on Nathaniel Dett from 4:00 PM to 5:00 PM in Sigfried Weis Music Building 100 - Natalie Davis Rooke Recital Hall

Erickson, an Artist Affiliate Professor and pianist, will kick off Black History Month with a recital and lecture honoring Nathaniel Dett, an African American composer, pianist and choral director of the late 19th/early 20th century. Come for some professional piano music and a chance to learn more about black history this first day of February.

WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 4: Jazz at Bucknell - Mary Halvorson Trio: Thumbscrew from 7:30 PM to 9:30 PM in Bucknell Hall

This FREE performance features the musical collaboration Thumbscrew — Mary Halvorson, guitar; Michael Formanek, double bass; and Tomas Fujiwara, drums. These musicians are taking the new jazz music scene by storm with their modern jazz interpretations and improvisations. Check out this trio’s unique take on jazz for a few hours away from homework!

FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 6: Late Night Music, The Wingmen from 10:00 PM to 12:00 AM in 7th St. Café

Grab a milkshake, a comfy couch and your best friends to enjoy the music of The Wingmen, a Bucknell-based group of a few students who really know how to rock. Listen to Andy Hritz on keyboard/saxophone/backing vocals; Quinn Blanco on lead vocals; Nathan Wagner on electric guitar/violin/slide guitar/bass; Cole McCollum on bass/acoustic and electric guitar/backing and lead vocals, and Aaron Messersmith on drums for a group who really can play it all. No need to pay; come listen to this group for free and enjoy a relaxing, music-filled Friday night right on campus.
