Jazz at Bucknell Spring Series Premiere with Mark Turner Quartet Wednesday, February 3rd, 7:30 PM @ Bucknell Hall (FREE)

Kicking off the Jazz at Bucknell Spring Series, the Mark Turner Quartet will perform at Bucknell Hall this Wednesday. Noted by the New York Times for his prowess on tenor sax, Mark Turner will play with Jason Palmer on trumpet, Joe Martin on bass, and Marcus Gilmore on drums. This series aims to expose the Bucknell and Lewisburg community to some of the best modern jazz groups and performers on the scene today.

 

Late Night Music Series ft. Ian Clark!

Presented by ACE (Activities and Campus Events), student Ian Clark will perform in the 7th Street Cafe as part of the weekly Late Night Music Series.

 

The Duck Variations

Friday, February 5th, and Saturday, February 6th, 7:30 PM @ Harvey Powers Theater ($5)

(Student Winter Play)

An examination of life through dialogue, The Duck Variations by David Mamet, directed by Samantha Gates ‘16, is a multi-part play that revolves around the conversation of two elderly men seated on a park bench, who convey their opinions on things like aging, death, leadership, and sex through observations and musings on the actions of ducks in a nearby lake.

 

Allison Aaron Senior Voice Recital

Alli Aaron, of Bucknell’s own Beyond Unison A Capella, performs a repertoire of vocal pieces for her Senior Recital.

 

Gamelan Dharma Swara Performance + Ceremony

Saturday, February 6th, 7:30 PM @ Weis Center (FREE)

(Blessing Ceremony + Reception + Professional Gamelan Performance)

In celebration of Bucknell’s new gamelan semara dana instrument, a certain type of Balinese gamelan (a word referring to the percussion instrument used in performance, the name of an ensemble, and the genre of music and dance itself), Ida Bagus Made Widnyana will come to Bucknell to bless the new gamelan. Following the blessing, there will be a reception in the Weis Center lobby, and then a performance by Dharma Swara, a famous Gamelan group founded in 2000.
