Why You Should Add Haim to Your Playlists

Three sisters, Danielle, Este, and Alana formed Haim over 8 years ago, but they have certainly done nothing but gain energy and excitement over the past few years. Not only does their album, Days are Gone never get old, but also they constantly collaborate with different artists, including Calvin Harris. All three sisters have completely different voices, which combined with upbeat rhythms, create music that sounds like nothing else you’ve ever heard. If you haven’t heard any of Haim’s songs yet, check out my top 3:

  1. “Falling”

Parts of this song are completely calming, but each chorus brings more energy, which creates a nice balance. The deep bass and drums combined with different harmonies and guitar accents create an awesome dynamic. It’s also really easy to distinguish each sister’s voice, which makes it even more interesting to listen to.

  1. “If I Could Change Your Mind”

This song has a groovy vibe to it, and it’s easy to listen to anytime. It has very relatable lyrics, yet sounds unlike any other song I have heard. I frequently choose to listen to this song because it is a quick mood booster.

  1. “Forever”

This was the first Haim song I ever heard and I remember thinking, I don’t even know what type of music this is, but it’s amazing. I love the energy that radiates from the song. Whenever I blast this song through my speakers, someone always asks me for the name of the song.

When it comes to live performances, the girls never fail to impress. I thought the amount of energy put into one of their recorded songs was amazing, but seeing them live was a completely magnified experience. Their presence lives radiates so much positive energy to the crowd that at the concert every person I saw was moving to the beat. Not only does Haim bring great vibes to the stage, but they also find a way to make you feel like you are hanging out with them. They create this strong connection with the audience without the addition of extravagant sets, outfits, or sound effects. In short, they keep it real.

Haim is one of those bands that are easy to be obsessive about. Their older music influences, which range from Nirvana to the Beatles, combined with their young and modern style makes for completely refreshing music. Each song carries a different mood, rhythm, and theme. The girls all have impressive musical talents, but their unique voices are something often overlooked. The following acoustic version of “Go Slow” shows just how amazing their voices fit together naturally:

Currently Haim is working with Apple Music on something called “Haim Time,” a weekly radio show where the sisters do different activities such as “The Battle of the Birth Years”. In this show, each sister chooses a song that came out in her birth year to play on the station. At the end of the show, their parents awarded one of the sisters as the winner of the contest for the best song. If you have Apple Music make sure to tune in and listen to sisters be crazy and silly while choosing some of their favorite songs and influences to play during the hour.
