Wildfire by SBTRKT feat. Little Dragon
SBTRKT, aka London based producer Aaron Jerome, is gusting back through the music scene. He’s the masked man behind the eclectic jazz mixed with electronic syncopated beats and head bopping drums. SBTRKT created his musical identity to be unique. I recently came across SBTRKT’s (pronounced “subtract”) “Wildfire” video after a good friend excitedly told me about his upcoming concert in NYC. My friends can attest: it has been on repeat at home for a few days straight. The jarring images in the video take you back to the days when virtually all music was complimented by artistic cinematography. The art of the video, as the title suggests, portrays elemental chaos. There is a woman locked inside a bedroom. She and the inanimate objects that surround her are manipulated by the words and the sounds. Despite its visual complexity, the interpretive movement is simple. With the help of vocal collaborator, Little Dragon, SBTRKT’s video offers viewers a degree of misery mixed with insanity. “Wildfire" directed by Sam Pilling is truly a multi-sensory experience.
Though “Wildfire” made its debut in SBTRKT's self-entitled album in May of 2011, the artist is now on a new mission to conquer the world and lead a pack of comparable artists such as James Blake. Another version of the song features an intro by Drake, and did not disappoint. SBTRKT is now on a world tour, promoting his next LP, Wonder Where We Land, which was released this week on September 23, 2014! Check out “Voices in My Head” ft. A$AP Ferg, the masked man disclosed to Pitchfork that the new collaboration "is one of [his] fave tracks and seemed to be a fitting ending to the record too (Pitchfork).” Make sure to check it out and share the love and intrigue that is “Wildfire"!
